Henri-Edmond Cross (1856-1910) was a pioneering French painter who became one of the leading figures of the Neo-Impressionist movement. Initially trained in the traditional academic style, Cross was drawn to the innovative techniques of Impressionism before discovering Pointillism in the mid-1880s. After meeting Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, he fully embraced the Neo-Impressionist technique of applying small, distinct dots of pure colour that optically blend in the viewer's eye, creating luminous and vibrant compositions.

In 1891, seeking relief from chronic rheumatism, Cross moved to the Mediterranean coast of southern France, where he would create his most celebrated works. The brilliant light and vivid colours of the French Riviera transformed his palette, inspiring him to develop a more expressive and loosely structured approach to Pointillism. His sun-drenched landscapes, featuring idyllic coastal scenes, pine trees, and tranquil harbours, are characterised by bold colour harmonies and a sense of Mediterranean serenity. Cross's innovative use of colour and his more liberated brushwork influenced the next generation of artists, including Henri Matisse and the Fauvist movement, cementing his legacy as a bridge between Neo-Impressionism and modern art.

I've gathered here a selection of what I consider his finest works, reproduced in a manner that does justice to the artist himself.

Prints include a very thin white border as a presentation choice. This helps preserve as much of the original image as possible and ensures easy framing — most frames will cover the border entirely.

Each print is individually produced with care, making it ideal for your home, studio, or as a unique gift.

This is a museum-quality giclée art print produced on heavyweight textured Fine Art paper. This process enhances colour depth and detail, giving the artwork a rich, gallery-worthy finish. Printed with premium archival inks, the result offers fade resistance of up to 100 years in albums and several decades on display, so your print can be enjoyed for many years to come.
